What To Look For In Your CBD Tinctures

Here’s what you should know before choosing your next CBD tincture to ensure it’s a quality product.

Pretty much everyone is familiar with CBD by now. At least they’re familiar with the name if they’re not familiar with the actual product. Which honestly, is most of the people out there and is frankly an obstacle when it comes to deciding on what type of CBD product to buy.

There are just so many options; edibles, capsules, topicals, vaping oils, bath bombs, tinctures, and oils. A wide variety of options, each one with its very own specs and application methods.

Types of CBD Products Available

Edibles

These are any type of edible consumable that has been made using or infusing it with CBD extract. The type of CBD extract used may vary but if you can eat it, then it’s an edible. Edibles are popular because they offer a fun and often delicious way to consume a functional and usually strong flavored product like CBD.

Capsules

Pills and soft gels are usually the most common format for CBD capsules. Technically they’re considered edibles because they’re ingested through the mouth and processed in the body by the digestive tract. However, they make a run for being their own category because they resemble pills more than they do food. Capsules are potentially the CBD product that brings the most accurate CBD dose out of all products. Which has made them an increasingly popular option among CBD consumers.

Topicals

Any type of product (it doesn’t have to be CBD infused) that can be applied directly onto the skin absorbed through the pores is considered a topical. Popular CBD products include moisturizing lotion, muscle creams, and other skincare products. Because CBD is absorbed directly into the skin when applied using a topical, it has been advertised as the most effective way of treating muscular or superficial pains. This is because when applied topically CBD acts directly onto the problem area, rather than having to go through the digestive system where it might or might not have a powerful effect on the specific problem area.

Vape Products

This one is pretty straightforward. Vaping has been around for a while now and most of us are familiar with the popular devices that vaporize oils which we then inhale and absorb through our lungs. Vaping is a popular CBD application method because it delivers the fastest onset out of all categories. The only difference between a traditional vaping e-juice and CBD vaping oil is that CBD vape oil doesn’t usually contain nicotine and is often 100% natural. Not to mention that it is infused with CBD oil of course.

Oils & Tinctures

Although paired within the same category, oils and tinctures are actually two different types of products. They are both usually consumed in the same way, either sublingually, topically, or like an edible diluted into water or included in recipes. Oils and tinctures are incredibly flexible when it comes to application method. The main difference between the two products is that oils are made by suspending CBD extract into a carrier oil like MCT oil, Coconut Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, and many others. On the flip side, tinctures do not use a carrier oil, they are a pure CBD concentrate.

CBD Tinctures 101

Tinctures can come in many different presentations, but the most commonly used packaging is a dropper bottle that enables you to consume it by applying a few drops under your tongue. The dropper bottle was first used to make it easy for consumers to apply under the tongue, but as the category expanded and became more flexible, the dropper bottle has proven to be a useful way of calculating the dose.

Brands like RYTE offer different sizes and strengths. These are perhaps the two most important specs to look for when purchasing CBD oils and tinctures. The size of the bottle will determine the total amount of product you receive. While standard dropper bottles will usually carry 30ml of content, RYTE also offers bigger smaller sizes including 15 ml and 120 ml presentations.

The next thing to look at is the strength advertised on the product. This will determine the amount of CBD you get per drop/serving. For instance, let’s take RYTE’s lineup of products as an example. Their strongest tincture comes in a 120ml bottle that contains 8,000 mg of CBD. In comparison to RYTE’s other 120 ml bottle that contains only 4,000 mg of CBD per bottle, you will be consuming at least double the amount of CBD with each drop.

Conclusion

Perhaps the most important specs to look for when buying a CBD tincture are the size of the product bottle and the strength of the tincture. This will determine the amount of CBD you are ingesting per serving. Other important things to look at are the application methods that the product offers. Some tinctures can only be consumed sublingually, but other alternatives will give you the opportunity of diluting them into your favorite drink or adding them to your favorite recipe.
