What’s Up With Missouri’s 8-Ounce Allotment? (And Do You Need It?)

Missouri MME’s

Missouri’s regular MMJ allotment is capped at four ounces every 30 days. The Show-Me state measures cannabis usage through something called MME’s: Missouri Marijuana Equivalency Units. The standard four ounces of cannabis equals 32 MME’s per month.

The state’s measurements are as follows:

  • 3.5 grams of marijuana = 1 MME
  • 1 gram of cannabis concentrate = 1 MME
  • 100 mg. THC-infused product = 1 MME

So, if you purchase two eighths of cannabis, that equals 7 grams. Take 7 and divide it by 3.5, and you get 2 MME’s. Subtract that from your monthly total, and you’re left with 30 MMEs for the remainder of the 30-day period.

Missouri 8-Ounce Requests

Consumers who require more MMJ than just four ounces per month can request to have their allotment doubled to 8 ounces every 30 days.

To do this, you must go to two different MMJ doctors’ appointments and get two separate recommendations. But, the recommendations have to be for the same condition for the state to accept it.

Who Needs an Increased Allotment?

Not every Missouri medical marijuana patient needs this extended 8-ounce allotment. Most consumers won’t even come close to reaching the 4-ounce limit by the end of the month; but if you’ve found yourself nearing your limit one too many times, this may be the best choice for you.

Most people who need the increased allotment have more severe, chronic medical conditions that require higher potency products — and more of it.
